DIE CUTTING

Precise Continental provides many standard and custom diecutting services. We operate 6 diecutting presses with a range of sheet sizes and a commitment to configure your project in a manner that is collaborative, cost-effective and a cut above.

KEEP IN MIND

  • Paper thickness is a factor when diecutting. Rigid paper requires more pressure so the die properly cuts the paper. In some cases, two passes may be required through the press to achieve a proper release.
  • Steel Diecutting or Laser Diecutting for your project? The size of the design and the level of intricacy will dictate the type of manufacturing process.

ABOUT

Diecutting is a form of finishing that can define or enhance your project. It's frequently used for invitations or note cards, pocket folders, labels, envelopes, business cards and such. To create a diecut, a metal blade is hand-formed into the desired shape and mounted to a surface, which is referred to as the "die". Operating much like a cookie cutter, the die is mounted to the press, paper is inserted, pressure is applied, and the die literally "punches" its shape into the paper and releases the excess to reveal its form. Dies can also be employed to simply "kiss" the paper, versus punching it, which is often used in adhesive label manufacturing. Die manufacturing has advanced to include automatic laser cutters, which carve narrow slots into the board's surface, into which the die craftsman will insert steel rules. Automatic laser cutters have improved the accuracy of die manufacturing in recent years.
